The 41st Bharat Ratna Award goes to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, a Great Indian Classical Vocalist. Bhimsen Joshi conferred the Highest Civilian Award, Bharat Ratna Award by an Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry at his residence in Pune, Maharashtra due to his weak health.
After getting Bharat Ratna Award, Bhimsen Joshi said, “I accept this honour on behalf of all Hindustani vocalists who have dedicated their life to music.”
Bhimsen Joshi was the Second vocalist and the sixth person from the same field Art and Culture who received the Bharat Ratna award. Ustad Bismillah Khan, Lata Mangeshkar, Pandit Ravi Shankar, M. S. Subbulakshmi and Satyajit Ray are other Bharat Ratna Award winner.

Bhimsen Joshi’s full name is Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi. He was born on 4th February, 1922 in Gadag, Karnataka, India and He was died on 24th Janauary, 2011 in Pune, Maharashtra. He is a legendary Indian Classical Singer. He was also honoured with Padma Shree, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, Pama Vibhushan, National Film Award for the Best Male Playback Singer, Lifetime Achievement Award and many more.
