Ustad Bismillah Khan, An Instrumentalist and a well-known Shehnai Maestro was awarded the Bharat Ratna Award by the President K.R. Narayanan on 4th May, 2001 in New Delhi.
Bismillah Khan was the first musician who played for Independent India at Red Fort on 15th August, 1947 and also played once again from at the same place on 50th anniversory of Indian Independence in 1997.
Ustad Bismillah Khan :
Ustad Bismillah Khan was born on 21st March, 1916 at Dumraon, Bihar and he died on 21st August, 2006 due to cardiac arrest. Ustad received doctorate from the Banaras Hindu University and Shantiniketan. All credit goes to Bismillah Khan for taking the Shehanai from the Marriage Mandap to the Concert Hall.
