The 29th edition of Miss World beauty contest was won by Gina Swainson from Bermuda. Gina Swainson was crowned Miss World 1979 by Silvana Suarez at the Royal Albert Hall, London on Thursday night of 15th November, 1979. 70 beauties were competed for the title, ‘Miss World 1979’. Sacha Distel and Esther Rantzen presented the 29th edition of Miss World grand finale.
Gina Swainson’s Profile:
Gina’s full name is Gina Ann Casandra Swainson. She born in 1958. She was 21 years old when she won Miss World title. She was 172 cm tall and her vital statistics 36-24-36. Her hair color and Eye color, both were brown. Gina won Miss Bermuda 1979 national beauty contest. She has also competed at Miss Universe 1979 where she placed the First Runner-up.
In honour of the First ever Miss World winner from Bermuda, a set of stamps were released with image of Gina Swainson.

Gina Swainson from Bermuda won Miss World 1979 title. Miss World United Kingdom, Carolyn Seaward won the First Runner-up Miss World 1979 title. Miss World Jamaica, Debbie Campbell won the Second Runner-up title. Jodie Anne Day from Australia, Barbara Meyer from Switzerland, Lea Silvia Dall’acqua from Brazil and Karin Zorn from Austria were other semifinalists.
Miss World 1979 Special Awards:
Miss World Guam, Anne Marie Franke won Miss Personality award. Miss World Austria, Karin Zorn won the Miss Photogenic special award.
