Jean Tirole – Nobel Prize 2014 Winner in Economic Sciences

One of the most influential economists of present time, Jean Tirole has been awarded the Nobel Prize 2014 in Economic Sciences for his analysis of market power and regulation. Jean received the 8m kronor as prize. Jean is the second Frenchman who won the Nobel Prize. Patrick Modiano won the Nobel Prize in literature.

A French Professor of Economics, Jean Tirole born on 9th August, 1953 at Troyes, France. He has a French nationality. He has a Engineering degree from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris in 1976. Jean obtained a Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Teechnology for his thesis ‘Essays in Economic Theory’. His working field is Microeconomics, Game Theory, Banking and Finance and Industrial Organization. Tirole is known for collaboration with the late Jean-Jacques Laffont. Tirole won BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in 2008 and John von Neumann Award in 1998.
